WHY KETAMINE?

Ketamine is one of the best pain medications on the planet! It is listed in the World Health Organization’s list of necessary medications. It was used on the battlefield to aid medics in doing procedures during wartime, and has been used in anesthetic plans for surgery ever since.

WHAT IS IT?

Ketamine is a NMDA receptor antagonist, a dissociative drug, a psychedelic agent. It is in the same class of drugs as psilocybin (magic mushrooms), LSD, MDMA, DMT, and ayahuasca. The intravenous medication ketamine is racemic mixture (R and S ketamine), the inhaled ketamine called Spravato, is only the S-ketamine (esketamine), and there are also intramuscular and oral routes. Each has it’s benefits and indications.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Ketamine is short acting, so it can be given in a therapy session of less than an hour. Although you cannot drive home from this treatment, you can have a fairly normal day, as the effect wears off within a few hours. The effect, however, lasts for quite awhile, extending in time with each successive treatment. It is suggested to have an induction series of 6 treatments to create more permanent change, with an availability of “reminder” doses thereafter, as needed. This could be monthly, quarterly, or biannually.

WHEN SHOULD I GET IT?

It is preferred to have a treatment on an empty stomach, at least 4 hours, with only water up to 2 hours before. It should be at a time that can be relaxing, when after you are not going back to work, or are needed to do anything for anyone else. This should be a time that is just for you. How many times do you do something just for yourself? It should also be a time where you have prepared for your “journey” with intentions. Intentions are wishes and wants for the SOUL, body and mind. It should also be in a place that is esthetically pleasing, comfortable, and devoid of distractions.
